Careers at Oakley School

Careers education, information, advice and guidance is at the heart of all we do here at Oakley, all staff have the highest aspirations for students and the destinations they move on to. Our aim, alongside our curriculum statement, is to ensure that all students make effective and ambitious decisions about the full range of options available to them at key transition points. We work hard to ensure we have an embedded and progressive careers programme of experiences of work for each and every student which allows students to recognise their strengths and skills, link these to their studies and understand the ‘ever-changing’ world of work.

What does Careers at Oakley Look Like?

Careers education, information and advice is delivered both explicitly and implicitly throughout our character and culture curriculum, within our pastoral programme and across subjects. This comprehensive approach means that students experience dedicated timetabled sessions to explore their employability, transition point options, destinations and have meaningful encounters with those from the world of work; in addition to understanding how the knowledge and skills they gain within their subject lessons aid in their readiness for life after school.

Students at various points in their journey with us will have meaningful encounters with employers and employees to help them understand the workplace better, this is used alongside the most up to date labour market information for Coventry and Warwickshire to ensure that all students are exposed to markets and industries that they may not otherwise have the opportunity to be. Warwickshire Skills Show - Careers Week 2026

Year 9 students attended the Warwickshire Skills Show at the CBS Arena.

They had the chance to:

Meet and speak with local employers
Gain insights from industry experts
Take part in interactive activities designed to spark curiosity and ambition

The standout moment of the day was definitely the robotic dog, which captured everyone’s attention. Our students represented the school brilliantly throughout and returned with plenty to think about as they begin exploring their future pathways.
