The Oakley School experience is broken down into four main cornerstones of focus. Each cornerstone is a stand-alone program, designed for excellence, balance, and a rigorous opportunity for each of our students to stretch and grow. Yet, when combined, these four cornerstones provide a balanced approach to life - a life that can continue to grow long after Oakley.
Academics
The Oakley School provides a college preparation program where learning is its own reward. Oakley stresses a "hands-on" learning environment, where lessons are not only applied and retained, but a lifelong love of learning becomes part of the student. A full curriculum includes college preparatory courses, Honors, and a limited selection of Advanced Placement courses, in all areas stressing academic achievement.
Oakley students are encouraged to begin the college application process in the junior year, and they all take college visits in the fall of their senior year. All Oakley students who have applied have been accepted to colleges of their choice. In the Oakley School context, natural curiosity receives encouragement and direction, as do individual abilities. Here, learning is one of life's consummate celebrations.
At the Oakley School we offer two semesters or coursework and a summer session. Our students attend classes four days a week from 9am till 4pm. Each student is required to have a laptop computer and we will load a program onto the computer to block internet access and the use of games. Internet use is limited to the library only and depending on the level of the student, varies in supervision. Click here for Laptop Requirements >>

Academic Support Services
We understand that although many of our students are capable of solid academic performance, some of our students will need a variety of academic support services available to them at Oakley. They may have let their academics slide over the last semester or two and need some extra time to rebuild skill sets. They may struggle with math or reading. They may have lifelong struggles with organization and learning solid study skills.
In addition to some formal academic assistance programs, the teachers at the Oakley School have an “open door” policy. This allows the students to meet with teachers during study halls and before school in the morning. Additional tutoring can be privately arranged through the academic staff or approved outside sources.
Academic Assistance Programs
- Study Skills – Students may participate in a study skills course that addresses learning strategies, guided study and cognitive training.
- Evening Study Hall – All academic teachers are available one evening study hall per week to assist students.
- Learning Specialist – a certified instructor is available to students with learning differences to develop cognitive skills and strategies. There is an additional fee.
- Academic Probation – if a student is struggling academically the academic advisor will put the student on a study intensive program restricting the student’s time for socialization without jeopardizing modules and/or athletics.
Academic Advisor Program
- Upon enrollment each student is assigned to a teacher as an academic advisee. The Advisor has the student in at least one class.
- The teacher with his/her group of advisees meets formally once a week during which time the advisor shares feedback, suggestions, encouragement, and congratulations with his/her advisees.
- Teachers meet once a week to receive feedback from other teachers on designated advisees.
- Academic Advisors assist and guide students with schedules and schedule changes.
- Academic advisors are the main communication between parents/guardians and the academic program through regular phone calls and e-mails.
